School is out in three days.

I stared at the words I’d thumbed onto my screen for five long minutes before hitting send.

Will: It is, yes.

So far, so good.

Me: The girls will be home all summer.

Will: Do you guys want to make plans to do some things with Nick and me? There are a few good trails we can take his chair on.

Here goes nothing.

Me: I want to “hang out” with you alone before we spend months surrounded by munchkins.

Will: Now?

I rolled my eyes.

Me: I was thinking, like, tomorrow.

Will: Because we can “hang out” right now if you want to. I’m not doing anything I can’t put on hold for two or three hours.

Me: Two or three hours, huh? That’s a little ambitious.

Will: Emma, I don’t know why you don’t understand this, but when I “hang out” with you, I plan on taking my time.
